Department of Community Medicine Visit to Community Health Centre (CHC), Maheshwaram

A field visit to Community Health Centre (CHC), Maheshwaram was organized on 28th July 2023. 28 students along with the department faculty members visited the centre. The visit was to introduce the students to the functioning of the Community Health Centre, the staffing pattern and the role and responsibilities of the health workers at CHC.

Firstly the students were introduced to the staff nurse who gave a brief introduction to the functioning of the CHC. Then the students were taken around to see the community health centre. They were given information about the investigations conducted for TB-HIV cases, ANC, conduction of normal labour and immunization for children at birth. The staff nurse also emphasized the various procedure conducted in the CHC regarding post exposure prophylaxis for dog bite (anti-rabies vaccination), treating cases of RTA, poisoning etc. Students were able to interact with the working staff at the centre and acquire information and knowledge about their role and responsibilities at CHC.

Department of Community Medicine Visit to Infectious Hospital -Government General TB & Chest Hospital, Erragadda, Hyderabad

Department of Community Medicine Visit to Infectious Hospital -Government General TB & Chest Hospital, Erragadda, Hyderabad

A field visit was organized to Government General TB & Chest Hospital, Erragadda, Hyderabad on 19/07/23. The visit was about introducing the students to the functioning of infectious hospital, cases of communicable diseases (respiratory diseases especially TB) and their management.

88 students visited the hospital along with the department faculty members. On reaching the venue, students were introduced to the Medical officer, in-charge for the TB unit. He gave a brief introduction to the functioning of the hospital.

After the introductory session students were taken around to the TB wards. There students interacted with the patients, took their case history and recorded their treatment plan. Further they were taken to the laboratory were sputum sample examination and other test are conducted. The Medical Officer explained in detail about Tuberculosis, investigation recommended to the patients and DOTS strategy. He emphasized the need to make awareness about the communicable diseases, its prevention & control. He answered to all the queries and doubts that students came up with. It was indeed a very informative visit for the students.

He handed IEC material, flipcharts and DOTS medications for sample to be kept in the Community Medicine department.

Visit to International pharmaceutical Expo (IPHEX-2023),Hitex Exhibition center, Hyderabad by JIMS Homoeopathic medical college and Hospital ,Department of Homoeopathic pharmacy had visited on 07th   July ,2023 with 6 Post graduate students,2 faculty members, Dr.Raghuramchandra, Dr.D.Dharani Dr.Sai Sivani,.Expo overview that brings together drugs, pharmaceutical and health care industry all under one roof.

Recent advancements in laboratory machines, laboratory researchers and techniques, placements in pharmaceutical companies, conduction of animal experiments, pharmacovigilance.

Department of Community Medicine Visit to Anganwadi

 A field visit was organized to 6 Anganwadi centres (2 – Gudur village & 4 – Inmulnarva village) to introduce the students to the functioning of the Anganwadi and the role and responsibilities of the Anganwadi workers.  Students were taken to these Anganwadi in batches. Total 85 students visited anganwadi on 1st & 6th July 2023.

Firstly the students were introduced to the Anganwadi teachers. Every anganwadi had 15-20 students of preschool age group who were accompanied by their mothers. The mothers were educated about hygiene, balanced diet and prevention of diseases in children especially during monsoon.

Pregnant females and lactating mothers attended the session conducted by the students on ANC care, benefits of lactation, ORS preparation and hand hygiene. After the session, a lot of positive feedback was received from the beneficiaries.

BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION CAMPAIGN

MISSION LIFE, a public movement launched in the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties in Glasgow emphasized mobilizing individuals to become ‘Pro-Planet People’. In support to this mission the Department of Community Medicine had organized an awareness programme for #BeatPlasticPollution in Kothwalguda village, Telangana on 20th June 2023.

The school children and villagers were educated about the need to prevent plastic pollution and the health hazards caused by improper disposal of waste. They were motivated to substitute plastic material of their daily use i.e., use of metal water bottles in place of plastic, cloth bags instead of plastic bags for shopping.

Villagers, children and JIMS team of doctors and students participated in the awareness rally and distributed cloth bags to the shopkeepers and advocated them to reduce plastic use.

Department of Community Medicine Visit to Industry - Vinayak Steel Limited, Kothur

A field visit to Vinayak Steel Limited, Kothur was organized on 15th & 19th June 2023. The objective of the visit was to introduce the students to the various functioning units of an industry and the safety measures followed in the premises to prevent occupational hazards and diseases.

98 students visited the industry along with the department faculty members in batches. On reaching the venue, students were introduced to the engineer in-charge of the industry. The in-charge gave a brief functioning of the unit. He explained the medical and engineering measures followed in the industry.

After the introductory session students were taken around to visit the industry. First the students were taken to the main division of the plant were sponge iron is the manufactured from iron ore. Then the students were taken to the induction furnace were melting of steel takes place at 1600oC. The final product ‘Ingots’ i.e. blocks of steel pieces prepared were shown to the students.

The in-charge emphasized on the need to wear safety equipments to prevent from occupational hazards like burn, trauma, blunt injuries that can accidently happen in the industry. It was indeed a very informative visit.
