Objective –  The said visit is a part of academic curriculum

  • To acknowledge the students about procedure followed and legal formalities related to post mortem examination
  • To visit a well established forensic medicine and toxicology department at Gandhi Medical College , Hydrabad.

Brief of visit

  • The JIMS College Students (II BHMS) embarked on a valuable visit to the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad on December 15th and 16th, 2023.
  • The visit included firsthand exposure to autopsies conducted on various cases, such as Hanging, Road Traffic Accidents (RTA), and Cellulitis, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of forensic procedures.Associate Prof. Nagaraj and Dr. Mahender, assisted by Postgraduates, guided the students through these experiences.
  • The participating students were divided into two batches, with 42 students in each batch, totaling 84 students. Faculty members Dr. W. Sandhya Manohar, Dr. Shrinivas Kumbhejkar, and Dr. Anushka Subash actively participated in and supervised the visit.
  • During the visit, faculty members elucidated critical concepts such as estimating the time of death, Rigor mortis, Cadaveric Spasms, Post-mortem Lividity, and their Medicolegal aspects, providing students with valuable insights into forensic medicine.
  • The educational journey extended beyond autopsies, as the students explored the Museum and Court Model at Gandhi Medical College. Dr. W. Sandhya Manohar, Dr. Shrinivas Kumbhejkar, and Dr. Nagaraj shared insights into court procedures, and the museum visit exposed students to diverse specimens, including mummified bodies, wet specimens, bones, and toxicological specimens, contributing to a well-rounded practical understanding of postmortem processes.

Conclusion

  • The visit became very fruitful.
  • The students saw 5 post mortems and faculties of Gandhi medical college explained about minute details of legal formalities followed before postmortem examination, actual procedure of postmortem examination – both external and internal, preservation of viscera , preparation of PM report and also handing over the dead body  to related authorities for disposal.
  • Students are excited to see well established museum and court room in Gandhi Medical college , Secunderabad.

Industrial Visit to Government Homoeopathic pharmacy, Ramanthapur, Hyderabad by JIMS Homoeopathic medical college and Hospital ,Department of Homoeopathic pharmacy had visited on 14th December ,2023 with 74 Undergraduate students (Ist BHMS 2022-2023 batch), 7 Post graduate students,3 faculty members (Dr.Raghuramchandra, Dr.D.Dharani, Dr.Tejas Gosavi).

Demonstrations given under each sections are  Homoeopathic dilution section, Trituration section, Mother tincture section, External application section includes Oils and Ointments, Globules and Tablet section, Storage and Preservation of Homoeopathic medicines. Governtment homoeopathic pharmacy is functioning from 2002 to meet with the manufacture of Homoeopathic medicine for distribution to Government Homoeopathic dispensaries and government Homoeopathic hospitals.

Department of Community Medicine Visit to MIR ALAM Water Purification Plant, Hyderabad

A field visit was organized on 9th December 2023 to MIR ALAM Water Purification Plant, Hyderabad to introduce the students to the various methods of water purification & different test conducted to evaluate its purity. 98 students visited the plant along with the department faculty members.

Firstly the students were introduced to the staff working at the water purification plant. They were taken around to see the plant where water is treated at large scale in various stages.

The in-charge explained every step in the process of purification in detail. The students were shown the alum house, sedimentation tanks, reservoirs and filter beds. The back washing technique used in rapid sand filtration was shown to the students as well. The process of chlorination of water was discussed and various tests conducted to assess the purity of water were demonstrated to the students. The in-charge demonstrated the DPD test (N,N-diethyl-p-phenylene diamine) used to assess the residual chlorine in water.

Students were made aware about the need for purification of water so as to prevent water borne diseases. They were motivated to educate the people about water conservation.

Department of Community Medicine Visit to Milky Plus Foods Pvt. Ltd. (Milk Dairy)

A field visit was organized on 16th & 19th October 2023 to Milky Plus Foods Pvt. Ltd – Milk Dairy for final BHMS students. The visit was to introduce the students to the various methods of pasteurization of milk, test conducted to evaluate the efficacy of pasteurization and to educate them about milk hygiene and prevention of milk borne diseases.

93 students visited the dairy in 2 batches along with the department faculty members.

Firstly the students were introduced to the in-charge of the milk dairy. They were taken around the plant to see how milk is collected & stored in large containers and through different channels supplied to the other units where various milk products are prepared. Students were shown the curd, favored milk, khoya, ghee processing and packaging units. Further they were taken to the milk processing unit where the in-charge explained every step included in the process of pasteurization of milk with different methods like Holder method, HTST and UHT method. Thereafter the students were taken to the laboratory were efficacy of pasteurization is verified by test like phosphate test and standard plate count etc. Students were made aware about the need for maintenance of milk hygiene as to prevent the milk borne diseases.
