Workshop on Anthroposophical Medicine at JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital

A one-day workshop on “Anthroposophical Medicine: A Complementary and Integrated Approach to Healthcare” was conducted on 14 October 2025 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM as part of the ongoing internship training program. The session was led by Dr. Wahida Murthy, Founder and CEO of Swasthyaniketan – Integrated Healthcare and Research Foundation, Bengaluru. She is a Consultant Anthroposophic Physician, Art Therapist, Biography Counsellor, and Holistic Fertility and Family Health Consultant. The workshop was attended by Dr. Srinath Rao, Dr. Mohammed Irfan, and interns.

Dr. Wahida introduced the interns to Anthroposophy and its relevance in healthcare, focusing on core concepts such as the fourfold dimensions of health, the three functional systems, the theory of life, and the principles of Integrative Medicine. The post-lunch session featured an engaging art therapy activity, which the interns participated in enthusiastically, finding it both relaxing and rejuvenating. She further emphasized the significance of relaxation techniques, reconnecting with nature, and cultivating inner awareness for overall well-being.

The session was highly interactive, and Dr. Wahida’s engaging approach kept the participants attentive and inspired. She patiently addressed all queries and encouraged reflective discussion. The interns were able to draw meaningful parallels between Anthroposophical Medicine and Homeopathy, which helped them relate to the holistic approach with greater clarity. Many expressed interest in future hands-on training, to which the speaker kindly agreed. The workshop proved to be an enriching and insightful experience for the interns, broadening their perspective on integrative healthcare.

“Never Miss a Beat” – Two-Day World Heart Day Program at JIMS HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICAL COLLEGE & HOSPITAL

On the occasion of World Heart Day, the Department of Practice of Medicine, in collaboration with the Departments of Anatomy, Physiology & Biochemistry, Pathology & Microbiology, and Community Medicine, inaugurated a two-day program based on the global theme “Never Miss a Beat.”

The event commenced with a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony by Dr. N. C. Dhole, Principal and Head of the Department of Practice of Medicine, marking the official launch of the celebrations. The inaugural day set a compassionate and inspiring tone, emphasizing awareness, prevention, and heart-healthy living.

As part of the program, students actively participated in a Model and Poster Competition, showcasing their creativity, knowledge, and commitment through impactful concepts and thoughtful presentations. The initiative reflects the institution’s dedication to promoting cardiovascular health through education, engagement, and community spirit.

“Never Miss a Beat” – JIMS HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICAL COLLEGE & HOSPITAL Launches Two-Day Heart Health Program

In commemoration of World Heart Day, observed globally on 29th September 2025 with the theme “Never Miss a Beat,” the Department of Practice of Medicine at JIMS College, in collaboration with the Departments of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology & Microbiology, and Community Medicine, launched a two-day initiative to promote cardiovascular health and awareness.

As part of Day 1 activities, a comprehensive Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Risk Screening Camp was organized at Nednoor, where individuals from the community were evaluated for major risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, lifestyle habits, and family history. The screening aimed at early identification and timely guidance to prevent future cardiac complications.

Following the camp, interns delivered an engaging and educational awareness skit, highlighting the importance of heart-healthy practices, regular checkups, exercise, dietary habits, and stress management. The initiative reflected the institution’s commitment to preventive healthcare, community service, and experiential learning for students.

  • Overview of the tour:  The visit was to introduce the students to the functioning of the Anganwadi and the role and responsibilities of the Anganwadi workers towards pre-school education and their participation in awareness campaign.  

Students were taken to the Anganwadi located at Ranganayakula Colony, Ameerpet and Madanpally Patha Thanda in batches. Total 84 students visited anganwadi from 22nd -24th September 2025 between 10 am to 1 pm.

In support to the Poshan Maah and Swasthy Nari Shashakt Pariwar Abhiyan, awareness programme was organized in the Anganwadi. An interactive session was conducted with the pregnant females, lactating mothers and adolescent girls regarding nutrition, complementary feeding recipes, anemia, menstrual hygiene, management of diarrhoea and ORS therapy, breast feeding practices, awareness about breast cancer and self-examination, family planning and immunization. A health check up camp was also conducted during the event. Pregnant women, lactating mothers, children under 5 yrs and between 6-15 yrs were screened for anthropometry measures to assess their nutritional status. Total number of beneficiaries – 306

Final year students interacted with the beneficiaries and with Anganwadi teachers. The Anganwadi teachers explained them about the role and responsibilities they shoulder in promoting good health and education to the women and children in the village.

On 25th September 2025, JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital successfully organized the 4th workshop in the series for interns, focusing on the vital subject of Posology. The session was expertly moderated by Dr. Munjal Thakar from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on the theme “Evolution of Hahnemann’s Posology – A Sneak Peek into Hahnemann’s Thought Process and Experience”.

Dr. Thakar highlighted the genius of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann’s observations, reflecting his deep concern to alleviate human suffering, as emphasized in Aphorism 2 of the Organon. He elaborated on the progressive changes Hahnemann made across different editions of the Organon, which laid the foundation for successful practice.

The morning session featured clinical cases with centesimal potencies, while the afternoon session emphasized LM potencies—explaining repetition, change of potency, dosage, and practical application of Hahnemann’s guidelines. Insightful case demonstrations reinforced the concepts and inspired interns to appreciate the scientific precision of Posology.

The workshop concluded with an engaging interactive discussion between interns and the speaker, making it a highly enriching academic experience.

As part of the ongoing Poshan Maah 2025 and Swasthya Naari Shashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, the Department of Community Medicine in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and the NSS Unit of JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, organized an awareness programme on 24th September 2025 for pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls.

Final-year BHMS students and NSS volunteers educated participants on complementary feeding recipes, breastfeeding techniques, immunization schedules, management of diarrhoea, and ORS therapy. Special focus was given to adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene and nutritional measures for the prevention of anaemia.

The attendees, alongside faculty, students, and the Anganwadi team, took the Poshan Maah pledge, committing to nutritious food, regular exercise, and wellness promotion in their communities. Anganwadi children were screened for anthropometric measures to assess nutritional status, and a health check-up camp was conducted for the beneficiaries. The programme concluded with the distribution of fruits.

The event was attended by Mrs. Gnaneshwari (Anganwadi Supervisor), Mrs. Jyothi and Mrs. Vinodha (Anganwadi Teachers), Dr. Poonam N. Sutar (Professor & HOD, Community Medicine), and Dr. I. Sai Manasa (Assistant Professor, OBGY). A total of 155 beneficiaries were reached through this initiative, which successfully disseminated vital information and motivated mothers to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

As part of the ongoing Poshan Maah and Swasthya Naari Shashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, the Department of Community Medicine, in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and the NSS Unit of JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, organized an awareness programme on 16th September 2025 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Ameerpet village.

The programme began with Dr. T. Surekha (Associate Professor, Community Medicine), who provided an overview of the various health issues faced by women. Dr. Umarani (Professor, Anatomy) sensitized the gathering on cervical and breast cancer awareness. Under the guidance of Dr. Shivani Wadhwa (Professor & HOD, OBGY), IV BHMS students educated women on healthy habits, breastfeeding practices, and menstrual hygiene.

The NSS volunteers further spread awareness on the five sutras of healthy lifestyle, anemia prevention, nutritious recipes under Poshan Abhiyaan, family planning, and immunization for both children and women.

A total of 102 beneficiaries participated in this impactful programme, which concluded with the distribution of fruits. The event was made successful with the valuable support of Anganwadi Supervisor A. Sridevi and teachers Anitha, Suguna, Varalakshmi, Ragini, and Rani.

This initiative was a vital step in empowering women with knowledge on nutrition, hygiene, and preventive healthcare, strengthening the vision of “Swasthya Naari, Shashakt Parivar.”

Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology

As part of PCOS Awareness Month 2025, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, organized a Quiz Competition on PCOS as the Day-6 event.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Roja (Assistant Professor, OBGY), who introduced the judges, quiz masters, participants, and audience. The event was judged by Dr. Sreenath Rao (Professor & HOD, Psychiatry) and Dr. Krishna Hari (Professor & HOD, Pathology), who appreciated the dedication and creativity of the students.

The quiz, conducted by Dr. Kaumudi Padmamala (Associate Professor, OBGY) and Dr. Maanasa Inavolu (Assistant Professor, OBGY), was based on the theme “PCOS – Pathology, Clinical, Origin, Symptomatology.” Third-year and final-year students participated enthusiastically, showcasing their knowledge and competitive spirit.

Faculty members from various departments – Dr. Poonam Sutar (Professor & HOD), Dr. Surekha (Associate Professor), Dr. Phaneesh (Assistant Professor), and Dr. Divya (Assistant Professor) from Community Medicine; Dr. Bhavya Shikha (Associate Professor, Paediatrics); Dr. Sudeepti Sharma (Assistant Professor, FMT); Dr. Sudeepti Singh (Assistant Professor, Psychiatry); Dr. Vishnu (Assistant Professor, Surgery); and Dr. Kavya (Assistant Professor, Pathology) – actively contributed to the event, making it a multidisciplinary learning experience.

The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners and certificates to all participants. Dr. Shivani Wadhwa (Professor & HOD, OBGY) delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of students and faculty.

This engaging event not only tested the participants’ knowledge but also promoted learning, teamwork, and a spirit of healthy competition while raising awareness about PCOS.

The 8th Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan and Swasth Naari Swashakth Parivar was successfully conducted by JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital at Mamidipally/Ranganayakula Colony (Outreach Village), in collaboration with the NSS Unit of JIMS, Department of Community Medicine, Department of OBGY, and the Anganwadi Centres of Mamidipally Village.

The program aimed to spread awareness and empower the community on key aspects of health and nutrition. Final Year BHMS NSS volunteers delivered informative sessions on anemia, Poshan Abhiyan, menstrual hygiene, personal hygiene, and breast cancer self-examination. To further engage the participants, the volunteers showcased posters, models, and an impactful skit (Nukkad Natak) on “Tuberculosis: Myths and Facts.”

Adding great value to the initiative, Dr. Kalpavalli & Dr. Roja emphasized the importance of nutrition for growing girls, children, and mothers, highlighting the central role of women in sustaining family health. The program benefitted 24 children, 10 adolescent girls, and 15 women, and concluded with the distribution of fruits to symbolize the importance of good nutrition.

Special thanks to the Anganwadi Workers, Mrs. Swaroopa and Mrs. Kalpana, for their support and active participation.

This community outreach program by JIMSHMCH made a meaningful impact by raising awareness, correcting myths, and inspiring women and adolescent girls to prioritize their health and well-being.

PCOS Awareness Month 2025 – Day 5 Poster Presentation

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, JIMS HMCH, successfully organized a Poster Presentation Competition on PCOS as part of the ongoing PCOS Awareness Month – September 2025. The event highlighted the creativity, knowledge, and enthusiasm of our BHMS 3rd-year students, who presented posters on diverse topics including Empowering Global Health on PCOS, Yoga for PCOS, Benefits of Early Diagnosis, Effect on Mental Health, and more.

The session was graced by our esteemed judges, Dr. Anjali Baber (Professor, Repertory) and Dr. Bainu Sharma (Professor, Materia Medica), who praised the students’ efforts and innovative presentations. Dr. Maanasa Inavolu (Assistant Professor, OBGY) welcomed all participants and set a warm tone for the competition, while Dr. Roja guided the students in preparing their posters.

The event also saw active participation from faculty members across departments, reflecting true interdisciplinary collaboration in creating awareness about PCOS. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Shivani Wadhwa, Professor & HOD, OBGY, appreciating the efforts of judges, faculty, and students in making the event a grand success.

The Poster Presentation served as a meaningful platform to spread awareness and encourage deeper understanding of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) among students and faculty alike.
