Holistic Maternal Care: Promoting Antenatal Health and Breastfeeding for Every Mother and Child

The Department of Paediatrics, JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, successfully organized a Breastfeeding Awareness and Antenatal Care Education Programme on 03 August 2026 at JIMS Hospital, with the objective of enhancing awareness on maternal, newborn health, and optimal infant feeding practices among antenatal and postnatal mothers and their families.

The programme was spearheaded by Dr. Pravas Pal, Medical Superintendent, reflecting JIMS’ continued commitment towards strengthening maternal and child healthcare initiatives. Dr. Ravali and Dr. Shaik Haseena (Gynaecologists) along with Dr. Siddharath (Paediatrician) highlighted the significance of breastfeeding and the importance of World Breastfeeding Week.

The Paediatric Faculty and Postgraduate Scholars actively conducted awareness sessions focusing on:
• Importance of regular antenatal care
• Benefits of exclusive breastfeeding
• Correct breastfeeding positions and attachment techniques
• Maternal nutrition and newborn care practices

The programme was attended by pregnant women, lactating mothers, caregivers, faculty members, postgraduate students, and healthcare professionals.

A dedicated Breastfeeding and Antenatal Care Awareness Stall was established at the venue, featuring educational charts, posters, and demonstration models. The stall served as an interactive counselling platform where mothers and family members received personalized guidance from healthcare professionals and clarified their concerns regarding breastfeeding and newborn care. Informative pamphlets were also distributed to reinforce key health messages.

An engaging MCQ awareness activity was conducted for mothers and attendees in Telugu, Hindi, and English, encouraging active participation. The top performers were felicitated with informative books.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, encouraging participants to follow evidence-based breastfeeding practices and regular antenatal care to ensure healthier outcomes for mothers and children.

The successful initiative strengthened community awareness and reaffirmed JIMS’ commitment towards promoting safe motherhood, healthy childhood, and holistic maternal care.
