As part of World Breastfeeding Week 2026, observed under the global theme “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works,” the Department of Paediatrics, JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, conducted a series of community awareness and educational activities on 4th August 2026 under the guidance of Dr. Md. Irfan, Professor & Head, Department of Paediatrics.
Awareness programmes were organized at the Anganwadi Centres in Chegur and Maddur, where Paediatric Postgraduate Scholars educated pregnant and lactating mothers on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, recognition of infant hunger cues, correct breastfeeding latch techniques, and the vital role of Antenatal Care (ANC) and Postnatal Care (PNC) in ensuring successful breastfeeding. Informative pamphlets were also distributed to reinforce key messages.
An interactive session with mothers, children, and Anganwadi teachers encouraged open discussions on breastfeeding practices and maternal-child health. Smt. Laxmi, Health Supervisor, graced the programme and appreciated the efforts of JIMS Hospital in organizing meaningful community outreach initiatives that promote the health and well-being of mothers and children.
Simultaneously, a Breastfeeding Station was set up at JIMS Hospital, where practical demonstrations on correct breastfeeding positions and burping techniques were conducted using a baby manikin. Mothers, caregivers, patients, and attendants actively participated in the session, which focused on dispelling common myths, promoting evidence-based breastfeeding practices, and emphasizing the importance of family support in ensuring the well-being of both mother and child.
Through these initiatives, JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening breastfeeding support systems, empowering families with knowledge, and ensuring every child receives the healthiest possible start in life.
