JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital proudly inaugurated World Breastfeeding Week 2026 on Saturday, 1st August 2026, under the guidance of our Honourable Principal, Dr. N. C. Dhole, and Vice Principal, Dr. J. Santhosh Kumar, in the presence of faculty members and students.
The awareness programme was organized by the Department of Paediatrics, with the active participation of its faculty and postgraduate scholars. The initiative aimed to create awareness among medical students, faculty, and staff about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, its lifelong benefits for both mother and child, and the vital role of healthcare professionals in promoting breastfeeding practices within the community.
As part of the programme, a series of interactive awareness stalls were established across the campus. These stalls featured live demonstrations on correct breastfeeding positions and proper latching techniques using educational models, guidance on burping techniques, recognition of early infant hunger cues, nutritional recommendations for lactating mothers to support optimal milk production, and counselling on the numerous health benefits of breastfeeding.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate students, who actively engaged in demonstrations and discussions with faculty members. Through these interactive sessions, participants gained valuable practical knowledge while reinforcing their responsibility as future healthcare professionals to advocate for breastfeeding and maternal-child health.
The programme concluded successfully, reaffirming JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital’s commitment to promoting evidence-based maternal and child healthcare in alignment with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.
“Breastfeeding: A Gift of Love, Health, and Lifelong Protection.”
