Qualification

Master’s Degree in Science MSc Anatomy MSc Physiology or Bio Chemistry D Pharm (for Pharmacy lab) Candidates with additional qualification in administration/ education will be preferred.

Summary

A Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing a medical educational experiment laboratory, including supervision of laboratory staff.

Reporting:

This position typically reports to a Director, Head of the Department.

Nature of Work:

This position receives assignments in terms of broad goals and is given Considerable latitude for decision-making and establishing priorities in managing the laboratory.

Duties:

The following list provides the most typical duties for this position.

  1. Supervises and trains staff in the performance of laboratory functions – both, administrative and technical operating procedures.
  2. Evaluates staff proficiency and performance of staff and students.
  3. Establishes and implements written operating procedures and protocols.
  4. Establishes and maintains a routine documented schedule of quality control and quality assurance.
  5. Develops and directs the statistical and record keeping.
  6. Performs and teaches laboratory testing, reviews results of the tests/ experiments.
  7. Evaluates and establishes costs/price for individual in-house tests.
  8. Assist the Director and HOD to negotiate price of consumables & equipment in the lab.
  9. Stays abreast of new tests, new procedures, and new technology in the Medical Technology field.
  10. Managing laboratory inventory, establishing preventative maintenance schedule for equipment; overseeing computerized records system.
  11. Contributes to research goals of the organization and department.
