As part of World Breastfeeding Week 2026* with the theme “Protect, Promote, Support: Breastfeeding Through Every Step”, the Department of Paediatrics, JIMS Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital organized a program on 05/08/2026.
The morning session included a village awareness camp at Nednur under JIMS Paediatric Dept. The camp was attended by pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children. Village Sarpanch and Health Supervisor graced the event as Chief Guests. JIMS faculty and PG scholars educated the community on early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months, correct latch, maternal nutrition, and the importance of ANC & PNC. Informative banners and pamphlets were distributed.
Simultaneously at JIMS Hospital, Breastfeeding demonstration stations were set up covering positioning, latch, burping, and milk expression. Nursing staff were encouraged for active participation in the workshop and performed good in pretest and post-test with books to strengthen their counseling skills by Dr. Pravas pal, MS, Dr.N.C Dhole, Principal, Dr. Vishal Deshpande, PG coordinator and Dr. MD.Irfan, Paediatric HOD.
The post-lunch session began with a pretest for MD Homoeo students on maternal and infant nutrition, followed by a guest lecture by Dr. Sreeja and Dr. Shaik Haseena, Gynaecologists, on maternal nutrition and breastfeeding support.
The program concluded with certificate distribution to Paediatric PGs who completed the certified Maternal & Infant Young Child Nutrition course, and a vote of thanks by Dr. Md. Irfan, HOD, Department of Paediatrics. The event aimed to equip healthcare providers and the community with knowledge and skills to protect and promote breastfeeding for a healthy start.
