Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2025 – Outreach Program at Kothwalguda

As part of Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2025, JIMS Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital organized a community outreach program at Kothwalguda village, in collaboration with the Departments of OBGY, Paediatrics, and Community Medicine, along with the support of Anganwadi and school authorities. The event aimed to educate the local community on the significance of breastfeeding and postpartum care, emphasizing holistic maternal and child health practices.

Dr. Roja from the Department of OBGY delivered an insightful talk on “Postpartum Care and the Scope of Homoeopathy,” highlighting how Homoeopathy can effectively support women during the postpartum period. Dr. Rukhiya, PG in Paediatrics, discussed “Hunger Cues and Breastfeeding Positions,” while Dr. Sumayya, PG in Paediatrics, spoke about maintaining a nutritious diet during and after pregnancy. Dr. Madhurima, PG from the Department of Repertory, elaborated on the different “Types of Milk,” and Dr. Siva Teja, PG in Paediatrics, addressed the disadvantages of artificial feeding and common breastfeeding challenges. Dr. Anupama, PG from the Repertory Department, shared techniques and the importance of burping. Ms. Akshitha, an intern, concluded the session with a talk on the various benefits of breastfeeding.

The event was graced by several dignitaries and community leaders, including Smt. R. Padma, Mahila Mandal Chairperson; Shri Yadaiah, Headmaster of ZPHS Kothwalguda; Anganwadi teachers Smt. Sarita, Smt. Shara, and Smt. Samadhanam; and ASHA workers Smt. Swapna, Smt. Manjula, and Smt. Roopa. A total of 57 beneficiaries participated in the program, including 10 pregnant women (both primi and multi), 7 lactating mothers, 30 children, and 10 members of the general public.

This awareness program served as a vital step in promoting breastfeeding and postpartum care practices, contributing towards improved maternal and child health outcomes in the Kothwalguda community.
